Program Offerings at The Gray House
Since opening our doors in 1984, The Gray House has focused its program offerings on addressing the root causes of poverty and meeting the civic, social and educational needs of our neighbors. From the humble mission of serving our immediate neighbors, The Gray House now serves over 7,000 unique individuals from the Greater Springfield area on an annual basis.
The Gray House supports those in our community who are living in or at risk of poverty by operating a food assistance program, Adult Education program and youth after school and summer programs.
The Market at Gray House
Of the program offerings at The Gray House, our food assistance program reaches the greatest number of households and individuals. The Market at Gray House provides groceries to households throughout the Greater Springfield community during our regular distribution hours as well as emergency food, hygiene items and baby items. For more information on our regular distribution hours and how to access resources outside of these hours, please visit our Market webpage.
Adult Education Program
The Adult Education program focuses on helping migrants, refugees and asylees living in Springfield to improve their English language skills while incorporating life skills. The goal of the program is to help our students gain self-sufficiency, better integrate into their community and give them the skills needed for improved job opportunities. Services are offered in on-on-one and small group settings, providing students with fundamental skills instruction, beginner English language classes, literacy development, and English conversation circles. To learn more about the adult education program and how to enroll, please visit our Adult Education webpage.
Kids' Club Programs
The Kids' Club After School and Summer Programs provide a safe, supportive and encouraging environment where children can learn, grow and succeed. The program serves children in grades 2-5 who live in Springfield. During the school year, the children receive academic support, participate in engaging activities and enjoy a nutritious snack, while surrounded by supportive and positive role models.
During the four-week summer program, they focus on maintaining their literacy levels through reading and journaling, engage in fun activities, games and crafts and partake in field trips, providing the children with new experiences and adventures.
